Boléro 4/4 (2025)
Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of the most famous works of classical music of the 20th century. Composed in 1928, it is a prime example of orchestral crescendo. The work consists of a single musical theme that repeats almost obsessively—without melodic development, but with steadily increasing instrumentation and dynamics. The original Boléro is in 3/4 time. This new version was created by Sameh Mina in 4/4 time.
Although not a widely accepted interpretation, there are indications that Ravel's Boléro was associated with the idea of an approaching, imposing caravan. The steady rhythm of the percussion, which remains unchanged from the beginning to the end of the piece, can be interpreted as the steady, slow pounding of hooves in the desert sand. With each repetition of the theme, the caravan seems to draw closer to the listener – barely perceptible from a distance, but inevitably approaching until it finally passes before the mind's eye in a powerful sound and in all its glory.
